The heater can be placed directly in the tent or outside; typically it is placed in the tent to ensure consistant heat. The propane tank is placed outside of the tent. Size of tent and temperature outside would impact the number of heaters required. The heater requires electric for the ignitor and fan to push the heat into the tent.
